That ia the way I set my 2 new laptops up. I have software that only will run in the XP environment so I install it on the smaller XP partition. You can still use the full disk size and you can save stuff from one to the other with no problems. You only lose about 15Gb due to the second operating system.

This way all your advanced hardware runs to the best of it's designed capability and you can still run your XP dependant software when you reboot to the XP environment. Microsoft does this to force users to migrate to vista. My solution is the only way around this. There is another approach but it is more costly. You can purchase an older mini pci wlan card and install it in your computer and there is no garauntee that your computer will accept the older card that you can find an xp driver for.

Microsoft is known for its bully tactics like this. The solution above is the best anyone can give you and the one I use myself. You will have the best of both worlds.
