Steam DRM You can find other versions like the bundles but i think they recently sold out. Once you have bought and activated the code on your steam account. Then you can buy the DLC. As far as i know this is the only way you can still get the DLC. Which took me a while to work out. It is weird you say it doesn't work. As you cant even buy the DLC without the steam version. Before i was using a friends steam account and playing. Though i had no access to the dlc. I will look into it some more. EDIT: Quick question Haddock.

Did you redeem the steam codes ingame while signed in? Or did you assume they will work straight away?
